All for one OR One for all?

Here’s an interesting article that questions the competitive nature of education and whether or not the model of competition is conducive for learning. Click here to read it.

Feel free to have a read and post a comment in response to the article. i’m not sure of my position, though i know i do not enjoy or promote competition to the degree that many others do. Participation is a more important concern of mine.

  1. Great article! I found myself totally relating to his story about coming to this realisation that now seems totally obvious. I'm encouraged that the direction we (want to be) going in math is a good one. One where a community of thinkers is nurtured. Competition can be fun and engaging, but only for those that are confident in their ability and even then perhaps only for those that "win". Lets not keep ignoring the majority of "losers" only to focus on the successes of the minority of "winners".
